Resources for applicants

  • ABA's Guide to Preparing for Law School.  Guides on bar admission requirements, financial aid, distance education, and more.  Also some general advice on developing skills relevant to succeeding in law school.

  • LawSchoolNumbers.com.  A publicly-accessible database of user-supplied information about law school admissions results.  More up-to-date than the LSAC Calculator listed below, but since all data are submitted by anonymous users, this site may not always provide totally accurate data.  Further, the data sample is not representative of the overall applicant pool, because data are only being submitted by applicants with particular characteristics (e.g., applicants who visit and actively participate on Internet sites related to law school admissions).

  • The Leiter Rankings.  An alternative to the 2008 U.S. News & World Report law school rankings.  The Leiter rankings attempt to focus "exclusively on the three factors central to a good legal education: the quality of the faculty, the quality of the student body, and the quality of teaching."

  • The LSAC Calculator.  Enter your undergraduate GPA and LSAT score, and find out how you might have fared if you had applied last year.  Important noteDo not take these results as anything more than a very general guideline to your chances of acceptance.  As a general rule, use the results to compare your relative chances at different schools, not your absolute chances.  Many factors influence your likelihood of acceptance, including your membership in any under-represented groups; hardships you have faced; your demonstrated commitment to pursuing a legal education; and the strength of your application materials.

  • The LSAC Store.  Get your LSAT preparation materials here.  When you prepare for the LSAT, there's simply no substitute for taking real, full-length practice exams.

  • Yale's Undergraduate Career Services Application Timetable.  A good general timetable for applying to any law school (not just Yale).  I disagree with some advice included therein, but it's a good starting point if you need to get your bearings.
